Mr. Philip Heidt
Philip M. Heidt, 59, passed away at his home on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008. He was a native resident of Effingham County, where he was actively involved with his church, his work as a realtor and land developer and Hereford cattle farming. Philip was an active, life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council several times.
Since 2004, Philip worked as an associate broker for Coldwell Banker Commercial Intercoastal Realty in Rincon, and operated as a developer of residential, commercial and industrial properties. He was owner/broker of Century 21 Heidt Realty from 1984-2004. During this time, he was a multi-million dollar agent for 21 consecutive years and top-producing commercial agent in Georgia for three consecutive years. He served as real estate broker for major commercial acquisitions for sites with the U.S. Postal Service, Food Lion, Krystal, Dollar General, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, local Ford and Chevrolet dealerships and other development and sales of commercial and industrial properties. He served as president of the Savannah Board of Realtors and the Savannah Multi-List Corporation.
Philip worked as branch manager and loan officer for the Federal Land Bank (Farm Credit Service) for Effingham and Chatham counties from 1977-1983, and was as traffic manager and planning and scheduling manager for Certain-Teed Corporation from 1969-1977. He was 1966 graduate of Effingham County High School. In 1987, Philip retired as Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service in the Georgia Air National Guard, Travis Field, Savannah.
Philip was a proud advocate of Effingham County. He worked tirelessly for the growth, development and prosperity of the county to improve the quality of life. He served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank of Effingham County, as president of the Chamber of Commerce, and was an advisory board member of the Coastal Georgia Rivers Water and Planning and Policy Committee. Philip's Effingham County roots ran deep. He was of Salzburger decent, and was a life member of the Georgia Salzburger Society. He also served as chairman of the Ebenezer Trustees.
Philip and his son Chris raised Polled Hereford cattle on the Heidt family farm. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, the Georgia Hereford Association, and the Georgia Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed traveling to Hereford farms around the country, and valued the many friendships he made along the way. Philip was an avid fan of professional baseball, collecting baseball memorabilia and enjoyed attending games with family, friends and especially with his grandchildren.
Philip is survived by a loving family including his wife of 41 years, Linda L. Heidt; two sons, Philip Craig Heidt and Christopher L. Heidt (Annika) of Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Robin R. Heidt of Rincon; his mother, Libby A. Heidt of Springfield; and two brothers, James E. Heidt (Sally) of Johns Creek and Alan T. Heidt, (Cathy) of Springfield. Philip was very proud of his seven grandchildren and loved spending time with them--Joshua and Jessica Heidt and their mother Connie Heidt of Springfield, Adam and Alex Heidt of Springfield, and Philip, Mackenzie and Alaina Heidt of Rincon. Philip is also survived by nephew, Matthew Heidt of Atlanta, and nieces Mary Beth Heidt of Kennesaw and Morgan Heidt of Springfield. Philip has joined his son Carey A. Heidt and his father Eddie P.
